I was in Raiatea for a 4 Weeks. Definitely the underrated island. If you want a tourist trap filled with rich anoying people go to Bora Bora. Here is the place to mingle with the locals ( they are fabulous if you) but you must speak French to have conversation. Do not expect anything to be given a la carte. Here you must make your own adventure and go off the beaten track. The locals again are a prime source of information. By the way best restaurants is xora but the roulottes were great also. Just know the portions are ridiculously big and can be share between 2-3 people. The diving is a must. Both diving companies are great and recommended. It is a must do Island.
Great place - elegant and tastefull - on the very pristine Island of Raiatea. The staff is very nice and the food... excellent! (Locally inspired dishes, great fish). And the historical marae (unesco!) is jogging distance - on a road virtually without a car, even in high season.
The hotel is fabulous! With a private beach it gives us a fantastic view. The food is amazing, so good! Well done to the chef! The staff gives us confidence, treats us like royalty. They take good care of us! Everything is well decorated and clean. About 50 minutes from Raiatea airport. Thank you everyone especially to Mary for her patience. I highly recommend this hotel. For me, It’s 4 stars!
Opoa
This was our favorite stay in French Polynesia. Gilles and Arietta are absolutely wonderful hosts and made us feel so welcome at their beautiful home! They are the best part of an absolutely fantastic B&B. There is literally nothing we would change except to have stayed longer at Raiatea Sur Mer and for me to have been able to speak more French.
A great place to stay to get your bearings on Raiatea. Close to town but you’ll need a car. The apartment is open air, but the bedroom can be closed off to have air conditioning. It was hot and muggy, so that was a real plus. The kitchen is well supplied. John is a wonderful host.
Tevaitoa
This is a clean, efficient studio apartment above a pharmacy in a commercial concrete building that would work really well for 1 or 2 people (1 bed) needing to stay in Raiatea for a short or medium length of time. It is 7 km from town. Two bicycles are provided.
Michael and his wife were absolutely wonderful hosts, they are putting in a lot of work to make the property even more beautiful. They were very attentive to our needs, and helped arrange excursions (best to arrange before you arrive, they fill up!) The bungalow was lovely, clean and roomy (fresh flowers in the room when we arrived). The shared space had everything we needed to prepare meals. We indulged, and had two breakfasts prepared for us, we were so full we skipped lunch both days! Kayaks are provided with nice snorkeling, and the huge archaeological site within paddling distance. We encountered dolphins on our day paddling. Rays are common, but we missed seeing them. We absolutely recommend a stay here, they are equipped to host couples and entire families.
Think of Teavapiti Lodge as a typical Airbnb/homestay - not as the Conrad Bora Bora which a lot of sour reviews have seemingly expected. The host was incredibly helpful in making my quick trip to Raiatea a good one, not only offering great local recommendations but also organising a rental car for the day, last minute, and prearranging a taxi for my arrival into Raiatea. The room and bathroom were fantastic, clean and comfortable. You have to cross a shared hallway to reach the bathroom, but who cares? You're staying in an excellent location with a great host and some adorable dogs. Overall, great value for money and I really enjoyed my time in Raiatea. I'd love to come back and stay here again when I return to this beautiful part of the world!
The staff is so incredibly friendly and my stay was a real pure Tahitian experience. Raiatea is totally different from Papete - it is the real Tahiti, I was stunned by the nature and by the wonderful people of that island. Raiatea was my personal favourite island of all Tahitian islands because it was still very authentic and the flora and fauna was stunning! A lot to see also because it is the birthplace of the Polynesian cultures why I think I is a must see in any way. You could basically pick any fruits you wish in the garden around the lodge. Starfruits, Coconuts and other tropical delights were all growing around you and you can self pick them. The lodge was located near river and a 10 minutes drive to the city. There were also some bikes one could use. They were a bit old, but enough to explore the surroundings with ! Car is the best to explore the island. Loved the location right in the middle of nature, it was a real pure Tahitian experience! Thank you so much !
